The reason for the different color of the pellets can be several. Main reason is the raw material from which they are produced.
- For example, if the pellets are made of sawdust waste of wood processing industry (furniture factories, gang workshop, etc.). Pellets will be lighter. This does not mean they are better quality – even the opposite is true, because there might be chemical additives in the sawdust, which can’t be controlled by the pellet manufacturer.
- If the pellets are manufactured from roundwood normal color pellet to be a little darker, but this does not mean poor quality. On the contrary – these are some of the best / quality pellets, since the technology allows to have 100% control of the type of input materials.
- To achieve a better final price, some manufacturers use mainly covers as input raw material. This makes the pellets much darker. The problem here is not in color, but in high ash, sand and slag. These pellets are of inferior quality which might form problems.
